Ανησυχητική αύξηση των εκβρασμών θαλάσσιων θηλαστικών στις ελληνικές θάλασσες


Καθώς το Αρχιπέλαγος ενέτεινε τον τελευταίο χρόνο τις καταγραφές θανατώσεων και εκβρασμών προστατευόμενων θαλάσσιων ειδών στις ελληνικές θάλασσες, συγκεντρώθηκαν στοιχεία που παραπέμπουν σε εκτεταμένη «σφαγή»: νεκρά ζωνοδέλφινα, ρινοδέλφινα, σταχτοδέλφινα, φυσητήρες, ζιφιοί, φώκαινες, φώκιες και θαλάσσιες χελώνες, σε ευρεία έκταση της ελληνικής ακτογραμμής. Animal Protection Groups Stand Up to Cruel Cormorant Killing

The cormorants of Middle Island in Canada's Point Pelee National Park have now become a target of the very agency charged with protecting them. Parks Canada plans to shoot and kill thousands of Middle Island's naturally occurring cormorant population in a cruel, misguided effort to protect the island's ecology. Parks Canada claims that the cull is necessary to save the island's vegetation, but cormorants play an important role in the natural process of regenerating the island's ever-evolving flora. Seal Defenders Of Sea Shepherd Attacked!


At 12/04/2008 the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society vessel Farley Mowat was attacked by officers from two Canadian Coast Guard icebreakers. The Farley Mowat is a Dutch registered ship in international waters and Canada had no legal right to restrict the free passage of the vessel through international waters. Read more...

Whale Killers Convicted for Killing Gray Whale

One of the Makah tribes most prominent whale killers has been found guilty of unlawfully killing a California Gray whale near Cape Flattery in Washington State. Wayne Johnson is the captain of the Makah Whaling crew and in August of 2007, he and four other Makah whalers unlawfully harpooned and shot a whale close to shore. The whale took over 10 hours to die and then sank unrecovered in the Pacific. Read more...
